The Jury is Out

On the issue of "subscribing" to blogs and websites for updates, The Jury is out. I subscribed, as per the directions, to two of my favorite blogs, FiredogLake and The Daily Dish (Andrew Sullivan's blog on the New Republic). So far, I found that there are just too many updates to make receiving them in the format that blogspot sets up easier than just checking in with those blogs.

Unless I'm just resistent to change. Or too technologically Luddite-like to understand and appreciate WHY blogspot's format is better. These are all distinct possibilities.

Catching up/slowing down

I accidentally set up my blog last week so I'm both catching up and slowing down with this post.

I have not had any trouble so far using Blogspot, but it autoformats so that makes it much easier than blogs where you have to know actual HTML.

I checked out the following library blogs:
1. Feel Good Librarian
2. A Librarian's Guide to Etiquette
3. The Bloggers' Book Club

I am partial to interesting stories of reference questions, so enjoyed the "Feel Good Librarian" anecdotes about those. I first worked at Roselle Library in 1979, when we were in the "old" building, and because we were all so close together (physically) everyone knew what was going on with everyone else. I worked as a page and a circ. staff member but always knew what the reference librarian was doing, and some of the characters they dealt with were fascinating.

I also enjoy book reviews, and confess to frequenting Amazon's customer reviews. A searingly critical review is often more fun to read than a fawning and appreciative one (at least to this cynical mind) so I'd love to read more of those. Perhaps a "Picks and Pans" type blog would be good. It could include DVDs and music as well. This weekend, I watched "Life is Beautiful" for the first time, and found it an appalling movie, and was shocked that it had won such nearly-universal accolades. I had heard that Steven Spielberg nearly walked out on the movie when it was screened and certainly saw why. I'm not sure if anyone elsewould be fascinated to hear my two cents on books and movies but those are the types of things I do enjoy reading about.

Why "Meteor Blades"

I named this blog in honor of one of my favorite bloggers, who's handle "Meteor Blades" is well known at "Daily Kos", a progressive political blog.
