Thing #5 Podcasting and video sharing
I ewnt to Podcast.com and found this http://podcast.com/show/26482/PM-Full-Program/ which was an interesting link to the ABC, Australia Broadcasting Corporation. It is a good way to keep in touch with what is going on in Australia; I know my husband would really enjoy getting this podcast. If only he had time to listen. I also visited Mediafly.com and did a search for library related broadcasts and found some interesting ones on a topic that I am intrigued by, library controversies. I am always interested in hearing how librarians are frontline soldiers protecting the First Amendment.
Youtube: Of course I watched the Dumb Blonde videocast again because one can never see that too often. Then I found another that I enjoyed, a Leonard Cohen music Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCeQ9Sw0rEM
Given the insipid versions of this amazing song out there it is nice to hear it done by the composer.
Unfortunately, my computer is low on memory and so that seemed to slow down what I could do on both these sites. But I would love to get an MP3 or IPOD and be able to make better use of the podcasting in particular. There are a lot of political shows that I would enjoy.

Thing #4 Flikr
This is something I am interested in, since I have been very challenged photographically while blogging. I have a lot of trouble using a digital camera so hopefully will get better.
I have heard Flikr can be a security issue since it does allow the tracing of the location of a cell phone that is used to take pics - is this accurate.
Anyway, here is the photo that I found: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27325590@N05/3010588852/
It is one I'd like to use (or similar ones) to an article I'm doing on why single payer health care is essential.

Facebook
Well, I set up a Facebook account, and begged several family members & co-workers to let me be there friend. I was told I would have to be approved - reminded me of wandering into a high school cafeteria looking for a table that would be welcoming.
I cannot post pictures because I do not know how to use our digital camera, so it is a cascading snowball of technological ignorance! I filled out a few of the "Profile" questions, perhaps horrifying a few people who didn't know these things about me (we're everywhere!) and realized there was not a single person I went to high school or college with that I really wanted to talk to again - unless I'm still talking to them already.
Facebook is a good tool for networking, especially for making those initial connections that are valuable. However, I prefer more specialized networking sites because I'm not that interested in the general social networking that the younger types enjoy. I also think Facebook is probably geared to be photo-heavy and I'm a words person (with a face for radio).
So I think it's a good "entry level" type social networking tool. Yahoo mail is driving me nuts and the biggest problem I've had is being told that my password needs reset, that I've done this or that wrong, and getting bogged down in the technical side of things. I assume that eventually I will get better at that but I thought that about piano lessons, too, and it never happened (after seven years, I gave up. Heck, after being missing seven years you are legally dead, so I figured it was a good time to throw it in).
I am now a "fan" of the Roselle Library, according to Facebook, and will check that out as I have more time. It's tax season, and all good CPA families are otherwise engaged.
